Charity is an important part of SWA. With the income from our members’ fees, and through generous donations from Scandinavian and local companies, and private individuals, we have in 2008 been able to help eleven families. The families are chosen by social workers operating for the volunteer organization Breadline, which is affiliated to the Singapore Council of Social Services. Based on their recommendations, we assist these families in various ways, such as with housing, rent, cost of public utilities, school fees and cash. By helping with school fees and cash, we have been able to support several students through higher education. This year we also decided to give monthly donations to The Tent, a shelter for young girls. The families we support are regularly visited by our charity workers and we always welcome new SWA members to join the charity committee. You can make a difference!
