THAIPUSAM TOUR
DATE: TUESDAY 22 JANUARY 2008
TIME: 8AM – 11AM
MEETING PLACE: DEMPSEY CARPARK
COST: $35 MEMBERS $40 GUESTS
LIMIT: 30 PERSONS
The Thaipusam ritual is held as a thanksgiving to Lord Murugan.
Devotees are carrying their offerings on a journey of faith from Sri Prerumal Temple
at Serangoon road to the Sri Thendayuthapani Temple.
We meet up with our guide Felicia Teo at Dempsey car park and drive out to the Perumal temple to
watch the devotees getting ready for the journey.
This is where they do the piercing of tongues and body and other rituals before setting off.
We can walk along the street to watch the procession for a while before boarding the bus again.
Our next stop is the Thendayuthapani Temple where the devotees enter and give their offerings.
We can also watch them performing the finale to this part of the ritual and see them taking
off the piercing afterwards.
You will have great photo opportunities – so do not forget your cameras.
Please note: Dress modestly as we are going to temples.
We will do a bit of walking, so comfortable footwear is recommended.
You may want to bring along an umbrella.
WELCOME!
